Helping Ohio homeowners separate the supplier from the utility
Ohio's net-metering rule distinguishes an electric utility's tariff from a competitive supplier's net-metering contract. A competitive supplier may offer its own terms for excess generation and is not required to enter such an agreement. That distinction can matter when a homeowner has chosen a supplier or joined an aggregation.
If someone says their solar credits changed, ask about both the supplier and the utility shown on the bill. The solar installation contract is another document, not a substitute for those electricity terms. Record the dates and what the customer was told before drawing any connection between the changes.
